Carex testacea
Carex testacea is one of our favourite grasses. It's dense arching olive green foliage looks beautiful especially in autumn with the sun catching the different shades in the leaves. Prefers full sun or part-shade in well-drained soil. In midsummer it bears small brown flower spikes. In late summer/autumn the foliage colours with beautiful oranges and coppery colours. Although it can grow in some shade it colours best in more sun. Good as a speciman in a border or container. Evergreen. Approx. 1m x 60cm. Comb through in spring to get rid of dead stems or cut out carefully.
Looks good planted with small flowered Kniphofia such as 'Wol's Red Seedling' growing through it or Coreopsis varieties.
