Acer palmatum 'Aoyagi' Japanese maple
Acer palmatum 'Aoyagi' is a deciduous, upright tree growing up to 8 m when mature. Striking pea-green leaves, bark & stems colour more intense in winter. Leaves turn red-yellow in autumn. Clusters of small purple-red flowers in spring followed by red-flushed winged fruits. Any reasonably fertile moist but well-drained soil in sun/part-shade. Leaf colour is best in part-shade. If in sun needs more moisture. Sheltered position. Hardy. If necessary prune in late autumn to midwinter.
